“As a new musician to the Perth Music scene (just over two years) I can honestly say I am light years ahead of where I would otherwise be, if I had not attended Gig School . I had been aware of Ezereve through a mutual theatre connection, and watched her as she formed Champagne Duo - and so I was a witness to this business from its inception….and then it’s incredible rise in popularity over an extremely short time frame (approximately 1 year). “I remember seeing on social media that Gig School was coming up and after doing some research, I bought my ticket and attending was one of the best things I could have done to learn more about being a Musician. On the day we got to hear from industry experts about what they are looking for when booking musicians, we networked with industry experts and other musicians, we learned about social media presence and the importance that social media has in this day and age and we also had the opportunity to record a one minute promo video, which is great quality and can be sent out to booking agents and posted on social media too.

“I have been a regularly gigging musician for about 10 years before gig school but in a duo and never had to deal with the back end of getting gigs, marketing and working the gear. When I decided to go solo I went to gig school and learnt so much that pushed me step up my game massively, this in turn has given me SO many more opportunities within the music community. The shear volume of gigs has increased dramatically year on year to the point I have had to say no to a lot of gigs because I was already so full and now the quality and pay of gigs is increasing. “For a long time, I only sang when friends asked me to or at volunteer events. Singing felt natural, but it stressed me out, and I didn't really know what I wanted to do with my voice. Then, in 2023, a friend told me about Gigschool, and I reached out to Ez for some advice. She said I could definitely get gigs using backing tracks, but learning an instrument would be even better. So, I decided to pick up the guitar. It was tough, and there were lots of times I doubted myself, but I pushed through.
